Room Air Challenge

AJ took his first "Room Air" Challenge yesterday. They remove his O2 for 45 min and record his vitals every 5 min. He has to keep his O2 saturation levels above 80. This to assure all of us that after AJ comes home (and is no longer monitored), if he were to pull his O2 out in the middle of the night while Andy and I were sleeping, he wouldn't go into immediate distress.

I did not expect that AJ would do very well on this challenge and I even pushed back on the doc saying maybe we should wait. He's still on enough volume of O2 that the nurses said they wouldn't expect him to pass. But the doc felt that his saturation levels were so good lately, that he might surprise us all.

He did not pass. But he didn't nose dive right away either. He lasted about 25 min before he dropped his saturation levels. They say they will probably try again in a few days to a week.

  1. Dear Sara,
I am sorry that little AJ is having troubles breathing on his own. Keep up the good work. Give him a little kiss from me.
