- AJ -
AJ's feeding tube was removed on Thursday night. He's lost some weight, gained some weight, and lost some weight since then. He has nippled all his feedings since Thursday night, however, today, he was very tired (and had to be woken up for each feeding) and had several feeding-Brady's. The feeding tube could go back in if he misses a few feedings. I think this is a real possibility because normally, you have nipple most of your feedings for 72 hours before they remove the tube...AJ only did this for 24 hours before they removed his tube.

His O2 volumes are still way too high for him to come home on...besides, he's still having sleeping-Brady's (have to be 5 days clear of sleeping-Brady's to come home). Still, we can see he's getting more mature and has a little more respiratory capacity...and I think he needs a hair cut!

- Exia -
Exia and PetieO played in the waiting area outside the Birthplace this afternoon while we visited AJ. This is Exia leaning in so that PetieO can give her a kiss...(we said, "why don't you give cousin Peter a kiss?"...and instead of giving him a kiss...she leaned in so that he could kiss the back of her head). PetieO is clearly having a great time!

  1. It is like you are speaking another language! What is nippled? You and your fancy NICU speak! Man our kids are cute . . . even PMOIII doesn't look like he is having a great time!

  2. "Nippled his feeding" means he took his feeding by either bottle or breast (as opposed to being fed passively via the tube). "Brady" is when his heart rate drops below 80. Sometimes this happens when he's eating and sometimes when he's sleeping. If he's eating, the don't count it as significant events because he was probably just having trouble with suck, swallow, breathe. But if he's sleeping and just forgets to breathe (causing his heart rate to dip) and he needs some stimulation or help recovering, then it counts as a significant event.
