Baby boy Depperschmidt is doing amazingly well. He's been breathing on his own since his astonishing arrival yesterday and twice yesterday, he latched on and breastfed (which was shocking and fantastic...much like his arrival).
Early this morning, they opened his bed and wrapped him up to see if he can maintain his body temperature. We'll see how our little fighter does...
I'm still in the hospital and I will try to stay here as long as I can (although I'm feeling great and anxious to get home). It's so convenient to pump and then walk just a few feet to drop the milk off at the NICU fridge. I'm finding it's so time consuming to try to eat and drink, pump, and make it to the NICU to see him at the scheduled intervals. I can't quite imagine adding in the commute to/from home. At least it's a very short drive!
E hasn't met her brother yet and probably won't until he can come home. The NICU (at least at this hospital) discourages children under 3 from visiting because they tend to carry a lot of germs...I'm not sure 3+ year olds are really less germy, but whatever...I don't think E would get a lot of benefit from a visit to the NICU. We will show her pictures and hopefully my two babies will get to meet soon enough. When E came to visit me yesterday after her dinner, it was so fantastic to be able to pick her up and cuddle...I've missed her!
I'm still debating how many details, if any, to post on our little guys birth story. It was fast (if you don't count the months of contractions and week of bed rest) and intense.
Also, I think Andy and I are close to agreeing on a name for our little guy...we decided to wait until tomorrow to discuss further because today was so emotional. But hopefully by tomorrow, our "little guy" will have an identity!
