"AJ, this is agua. Can you say ah-gu-a?"

One of Exia's teachers is from Mexico and prides herself on teaching the kids Spanish. E is one of her prize students (because E is insanely interested in ALL language). The following story is not an example of E's Spanish vocabulary though...just a funny story about a husband.

The other night at dinner, E picked up her cup of water and said to AJ who was sitting across the table from her, "AJ, this is agua. Can you say ah-gu-a?" When she didn't get the appropriate response from AJ (she rarely does) she repeated herself, a little more slowly this time. AJ started laughing at E.

She repeated herself. He laughed harder. It went on for a few more minutes. I was getting a kick out of the whole exchange. I tried to make eye contact with Andy. You know, one of those knowing acknowledgments of the krazy-cuteness occurring right before our eyes. He sort of looked at me, but didn't smile. I blew him off, thinking, "that fool don't know cute when he sees it..."

By this point, E was dismounting from her chair and walking over to AJ. She held her cup of water up close to AJ's face and again dramatically repeated, "AJ, this is agua. Can you say ah-gu-a?"

All of a sudden, Andy engaged - his eyes got huge and he exclaimed (way too loudly especially given his glossed-over look in the previous seconds), "Exia, are you trying to teach your brother how to say water in Spanish? That's so cute!" When I fell out of my chair from laughing so hard, he quietly said, "What? Have they been doing this for a while already?" Yes Honey. For awhile.

Of course, that fool-of-a-husband-of-mine does in fact recognize krazy-cuteness when he sees it...he just doesn't always see it right away because he's disengaged.  He was lost in his head thinking about work or football or chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with broccoli...or whatever he thinks about when he's not engaged with us. (I've always known he disengages, I just don't usually get to catch him in the act so easily!)

In all fairness to Andy, it's been a long few weeks working lots of hours and my added commute and the week-long stomach bug we all had last month, and the suck-y performance by the Broncos pretty much every week, etc. We're all a little tired...and more likely to zone-out occasionally :)

  1. I love this blog . . . the entire snap shot to include "Something to Smile About" and "
A Random Truth" which seems much better then a whole 30 days truth blog. Uggghhh. Your kids are krazy-cute and I am blown away by x's love of language. It is nice to give our husbands a break and a little bit of space to recognize krazy-cuteness on their own time. Thanks for the reminder. Loves.
