Okay, so on Monday, AJ was on 30cc's of O2 and they decided to retry his Room Air Challenge...which he passed with no problem. We didn't want to share that news too early because he was required to stay at the hospital until Wednesday (yesterday) because of the Brady he had last week...and anything could have happened in those 48 hours (if he had another Brady, he would have had to stay ANOTHER 5 days)...and we didn't want to get any one's hopes up (especially ours!).
Monday to Wednesday was uneventful (except for my anxiety that something might happen to keep him at the hospital). They did wean AJ down to 20cc's O2 and on Tuesday evening, removed his pulse-ox monitor (the lead that monitored his O2 saturation levels - a strong sign that they thought he was ready to go home). Then Wednesday morning, the doctor examined AJ and declared he was ready to go home. They packed us up and sent us on our way.
Exia got home from school yesterday and met AJ for the first time. She kept pointing to him and saying "Brother, Brother." She's been doing very well with him, touching with one finger and giving good firm love pats. She loves his O2 tank and wants to peel all the labels off.
It was so fantastic last night to not have to drive anywhere or coordinate babysitters. It was just us...all together...and it felt remarkably normal and "right."

Exia is a great sister, very motherly. The pics of her touching AJ and reading to him are precious. I'm over the moon for the Depperschmidt's
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that the Depper Family is together at last and that Exia knows her little brother! I am so happy for you guys. Enjoy! I just still can't believe that it has been a month . . . almost!
