Preterm, but Still PG

So here's where the update stands...

Admitted to the hospital on Monday. I'm 32 weeks along today. I'm still pregnant as of this morning which is a great sign. We've made it through the first 48 hours after receiving the steroid shots (which are supposed to help accelerate the baby's lung development). I'm also receiving antibiotics every few hours to help ward off potential infection.

The original path forward was to delay labor at all costs, however, after consulting with a pre-term specialists, no additional delay tactics will be taken (they will NOT delay labor). Up until last night, the baby wasn't showing any signs of distress, but last night he started having prolonged decels (his heart rate dipped for several minutes with each contraction and every time I moved).

They would ideally like to keep me pregnant until 35 weeks (but no longer because there are additional risks of staying pregnant after membrane rupture). I'm am currently on strict bed rest at the hospital (and will be here until we have a baby).

E is at school today and my mom and dad having been staying at our house each night with her...so she's in good hands.

They have started preparing us for what to expect from a baby born this early...there will be lots of challenges to overcome in the first few days, weeks, and months...but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Will post additional updates as we get them...
